Know Your Rights
“If we cannot secure all our rights, let us secure what we can.”
Thomas Jefferson
The growing divide in society is underscored by the courts backing of evictions of the many for a few on the Lower East Side. This is completely backwards to the democratic ideals the USA is meant to represent.Every ounce of progress extracted from our Constitution to provide basic principles of democracy, written by the white elite who stated that all men are created equal but failed to make it so, has been spurred on by the citizens who were willing to stand up and demand better.
Tom 4 Prez is listening to citizens vent frustration and asking them to take actions that show our leaders we demand they do better by us. This country was not found upon the fairest system. Our original doctrines and laws were a compromise. Activists, socialists and others ‘outside the mainstream’ have fought for what few claims to equality are exhibited in this country.
Activists ended slavery. Activists gave women the right to vote. Activists ended segregation. Activists gave women the right to choose to have a child or not. Activists created the Environmental Protection Agency. Activists demand an Equal Rights Amendment (still waiting….)
Tom 4 Prez knows it is possible to have healthcare for all. It is possible to re-invest in education and spend the money necessary to hire more teachers, refurbish run down schools and provide all the materials and technology our kids need, the public education that our young citizens deserve. It is possible to provide all citizens the rights and privileges they deserve such as universal healthcare, higher education, a clean environment, our right to privacy!
To honor the memories of all those who have sacrificed to make the USA a better place where we respect for our differences we must do better. Tom 4 Prez encourages everyone to help redress our current grievances and use the rights reserved for the people.
1st Amendment
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
10th Amendment
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
